Stormsriver Adventures PTY LTD took top honours at the annual Proudly South African Awards Gala Dinner, held in Johannesburg on the 24th of May 2007. The “Company of the Year Award” SMME was presented to C.E.O., Ashley Wentworth and Admin Director Ms Reginah N Majola at this prestigious event which was attended by Deputy President, Ms Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, DTI Deputy Minster, Elizabeth Thabethe and many other captains of industry.
Stormsriver Adventures was also winner of the Corporate Social Investment (CSI) SMME category. The company was recognized for its commitment to the principles of “Proudly South African” which include Socio Economic Upliftment, Skills Development and Environmental Ethics.
CEO and founder of Stormsriver Adventures, Ashley Wentworth, said “These awards recognize the contribution of each and every staff member and embrace the broader community of Stormsriver, many of whom have been involved in the business since “inception”. Wentworth went on to say “It’s particularly gratifying and humbling that we were ranked against the top “Proudly South African” companies all of whom deserve recognition for their excellent service and local products”. A jubilant Stormsriver Adventures team was there to welcome back their C.E.O. at the Adventure Centre in Stormsriver Village on Friday afternoon, where an informal get together was held.
Stormsriver Adventures introduced their world renowned “Tsitsikamma Canopy Tour” in 2001 and through the affiliated “Canopy Tours South Africa Company” has rolled out Magaliesberg Canopy Tours and Karkloof Canopy Tours both of which have been major new job creators for rural communities. “Drakensberg Canopy Tours” is the latest venture which holds promise for further job creation initiatives. The Drakensberg operation should commence construction shortly.
Stormsriver Adventures is one of only 28 “Fair Trade in Tourism” accredited organizations in South Africa and has previously been recipients of the Imvelo Awards for Responsible Tourism.
