Stormsriver Adventures is more than just an adventure company, and strives to enrich the surrounding environment and community by honoring the following 10 point commitment statement:
"Transition", "upliftment"; "empowerment" - before profit.!
Stormsriver Adventures emerged as one of the largest new job creators in the Eco Adventure industry in South Africa. The organization has self-funded the training of guides from the local community since 1998.
The Government's commitment to promote active labour market policies is well demonstrated in the Skills Development Act, 1998 and the Skills Development Levies Act, 1999.
These two pieces of legislation introduce new institutions, programs and funding policies designed to increase investment in skills development.
There are two over-riding priorities that this legislation seeks to address.
Stormsriver Adventures has trained in excess of 800 Adventure Guides since 1998 and remains a major contributor to training in the Eco Adventure Industry.
Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA) is a non-profit organisation that promotes sustainable tourism development.
We do this through awareness raising, research and advocacy, capacity building and by facilitating the world’s first tourism Fair Trade certification programme.
FTTSA awards the use of special label to qualifying businesses as a way of signifying their commitment to Fair Trade criteria including fair wages and working conditions, fair purchasing, fair operations, equitable distribution of benefits and respect for human rights, culture and environment.
By electing to stay at or use the services of an FTTSA-certified establishment, tourists are assured that their travel benefits local communities and economies, and that the business is operated ethically and in a socially and environmentally responsible manner.
